Doug Braithwaite - Golf Club Manager
Douglas grew up on a grain farm outside of Indian Head, Saskatchewan with his parents, brother and sister. He played hockey and baseball through his school years but Doug discovered golf at the age of fifteen when his math teacher, Mr. Davies, encouraged him to try it out. His new hobby landed him at Saskatchewan High School Provincials and he was hooked! It seemed only natural that he would be interested in looking at post secondary programs like the Professional Golf Management Program at Lethbridge College after graduation.
Doug's golf career took him to the Tor Hill GC in Regina for his first job and he passed his Playing Ability Test in 2005. He completed his TCCP coaching level and enjoyed working with new golfers. It was not long after that he came out to Alberta to follow his family, who had sold the family farm to settled down for retirement in Medicine Hat, and landed at the new Desert Blume course in the Pro Shop. In the spring of 2008, Doug found himself at Riverview Golf Club as an Assistant Professional working under Trevor Ellerman. Life took Douglas away from seasonal work to pursue employment elsewhere but ended up in the oilfield industry, although his heart always remained in the golfing world.
When the opportunity arose in 2019, Douglas found himself listening to his heart to follow his passion again with Riverview Golf Course this season. He enjoys working with the members and wants to make everyone feel welcome and encourage youth to try golf. With a primary goal of providing excellent customer service and an aim of showcasing the course at its full potential, Doug is hopeful and encouraged about a successful year with Riverview.
When not golfing or working, Doug enjoys spending time with his two Shelties or hanging out with his nieces and nephews.
Carmon Dewald - Superintendent
Carmon Dewald, originally from Redcliff is a Turfgrass Manager who brings 35+ solid years’ experience in delivering turf and grounds maintenance programs. Carmon began his career at the Riverview Golf Club when the newly constructed front nine opened in the early 80’s. After 8 years as a CGSA Superintendent, he changed industry streams and worked as a Grounds Coordinator in the public sector until 2014.
With a desire to acquire more education and certification in turf management, Carmon enrolled in the 2 year Turfgrass Management Program at Olds College receiving a Diploma with Distinction in 2017. Carmon completed his field school/internship at Desert Blume Golf Course in Medicine Hat. The redeveloped curriculum at Olds College proved to be the education turning point Carmon was looking for. The program provided an opportunity to experience hands on learning and directed field studies with a unique approach of applied technology integration into every aspect of golf course turf management. Carmon is excited to incorporate new technology to foundational turf practices.
This past season Carmon further expanded his golf course industry experience working in golf course construction with Goodwin Golf at Kananaskis and Crowsnest Golf Courses.
Carmon comes full circle returning as Superintendent of the Riverview Golf Club for the upcoming season and is excited to once again be part of the Riverview Golf experience.
